New Google Search Options & Searchology Updates
Google Searchology 2009 event is finished, lately. Two years ago Google’s first searchology event introduced Universal Search and Personalized Search. So what’s new in searchology 2009? Various things actually.
Google Search Options: Marissa Mayer, Vice President of Search Products and User Experience, and Jack Menzel, Group Product Manager, Google referred these search options panel as a handy collection of tool belt that let you slice and dice your results and generate different views to find what you need faster and easier.
Search Options helps solve a problem that can be vexing: what query should I ask?
You can now power your search experience through “Show Options” link, just above the search results. Do a search for [cfl light bulb] and you can see web results with images by clicking the “Show Options” link, like this:
Under Google Search Options “Sort by Time” is a super handy tool, an option previously required clicking around in Google Advanced Search. You can now perform a search by genre, including forums, reviews and videos. Google will perform a sentiment analysis and highlight interesting comments if you want to have your search sorted by “Reviews”. Explore more related search queries, view search results on a timeline and request longer snippets with “Google Search Options”.
Explore searches and see the results update as you click, using the “Wonder Wheel” tool. Watch search results changing in real time with “Wonder Wheel” tool.

Google Squared: Unlike a normal search engine, Google Squared (scheduled to launch later this month on Google Labs) doesn’t find webpages about your search topic, instead it automatically fetches and organizes facts from across the Internet.
Rich Snippets: It extracts and shows more useful information from web pages than the preview text that you are used to seeing. For example, if you are thinking of shopping womens clothing and are searching for reviews, rich snippets could include things like the average review score, the number of reviews, and the product’s price range:
Google SkyMap: Google also launched Sky Map for Android. Google Sky Map turns your Android-powered mobile phone into a dynamic window on the night sky. Won’t you like to have a planetarium in your pocket?
